We had a busy day and we are exhausted. We went to two animal sanctuaries, homes to elephants and monkeys, who can’t live in the wild for different reasons. Although it is sad to see them living in small enclosures, away from their natural habitat (and especially after being at the Kruger park just days ago) it is kind of special to have the chance to see them up close.

I learned an interesting fact from our guide today that i can’t seem to get out of my mind (and even though it makes sense, it never occurred to me before) – the elephants in the wild no longer have tusks as big as they did a 100 or 200 years ago, because humans kept killing the elephants with the biggest ones. For the same reason lions are generally smaller too. It is worth it to take a minute sometimes and just consider the impact we have on our planet!
